It was not only the weather that was hot on Yom Ha’atzmaut. The atmosphere at Barnet Synagogue was electric as almost 200 members celebrated the joint birthday of the land of Israel and the Barnet Community.
After a solemn service for Yom Hazikaron and an address by Barnet Rabbi Barry Lerer remembering the ultimate sacrifice given by so many to ensure we have a State of Israel, the mood lightened with a Yom Ha’atzmaut service led by Chazan Alex Jaffe.
Then it was party time with a Pimms drinks reception and a chance to view an exhibition of the past 70 years of the Barnet Community which was put together by Barnet members Natalie & David Shaw and Donna Cohen. Following the drinks reception back upstairs in the Shul that had been transformed into a chic party venue bathed in blue light there was a hot meaty buffet from Reich and simcha dancing with music by Neshama.
A raffle and auction raised over £850.00 for Hatzola and Laniado Hospital.
The evening was rounded off with a celebratory cake being cut by those members celebrating their 70th birthdays this year.
