The Anglo-Jewish Association (AJA, www.anglojewish.org.uk), and the Jewish Quarterly are delighted to present an exclusive and one-off lecture to be delivered by renowned scholar Prof. Jan Grabowski entitled: ‘Whitewash: Poland and the Jews’.

The lecture will take place at a prestigious central London venue on Monday 25 November to be attended by representatives of Jewish community organisations and leading academics in the field of Holocaust studies.

A professor of history at the University of Ottawa, Prof. Grabowski will be speaking about his remarkable work which examines and critiques how the Holocaust is remembered in modern day Poland. His talk will also explore the phenomenon of historical distortions that challenge the truth of the Holocaust.

The AJA, which was established to defend the interests of British Jews, has sponsored the Jewish Quarterly’s August 2024 issue featuring Prof. Jan Grabowski’s ground-breaking essay.

The Jewish Quarterly is an independent publication that explores Jewish issues, and issues of humanity from a Jewish perspective. It was re-launched in 2021 and distributed and accessible worldwide. It now publishes single-article editions.

“The AJA is a catalyst funder for worthy initiatives that will have an impact on the future of our community”, said AJA President, Michael Newman. “We are delighted to be working with the Jewish Quarterly, an ideal partner with which to extend our reach. Our event is a unique opportunity to hear from a world-renowned historian on such an important and timely issue: the emerging phenomenon of Holocaust relativisation and memory erasure.”

“We are very grateful to have AJA as the lead sponsor for our current edition and hope this leads to further collaborations in the future”, said JQ publisher Morry Schwartz.

The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion to be chaired by Martin Winstone, Head of Education and Senior Historical Advisor to the Holocaust Educational Trust and Project Historian for the UK Holocaust Memorial Foundation.

Maiken Umbach, Professor of Modern History and chief advisor at the National Holocaust Centre and Museum, will introduce Prof Grabowski. The Centre’s Rapid Racism Unit is sponsored by the AJA.

The event will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend in-person.
