In response to growing interest in the community, Chana hosted an event this week exploring the process of egg freezing for single Jewish women. With the advances of fertility medicine, egg freezing has become an increasingly popular and sensible option for women who wish to maximise their chances of having children, if it seems they will be doing so later in life.

Dr Veronique Berman, Scientific Advisor at Chana, who opened the evening shared: “Chana is committed to education in the area of reproductive health. In order for couples to have the best chance of creating their families in the future, part of the process relies on each individual knowing as much as possible about fertility and how their current choices can impact on their future.”

Guests were privileged to hear a first-hand account of the egg freezing process, with a step-by-step explanation of what it entails. Senior Couples Therapist at Chana, Danya Ross, also addressed the group, exploring the emotional aspects that might be involved at different stages of the process, tackling questions like: ’what will it mean about me if I freeze my eggs? ‘Does freezing my eggs mean I am giving up on finding a partner? And ‘how will I feel when the process is over?’

The event was attended by several women with personal interest in the process, as well as GP’s, therapists, and a few women who have already frozen eggs, wishing to support others considering doing the same. Interesting questions were asked, and discussions were shared, creating a supportive and empowering atmosphere.

The evening delivered an encouraging message that there should be no stigma or taboo around egg freezing, and that although not guaranteed, it could have a big impact on being able to have a family in the future. Chana is committed to providing accurate and reliable information to women who wish to freeze their eggs. They provide a Fertility Preservation Resource that includes a list of clinics, prices and useful information. Chana also provides six sessions of emotional support that can be used at any point of the egg freezing journey.
