Pursuant to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s directive and following the approval to import 92,000 foreign workers at its previous discussion, the committee of directors general chaired by Prime Minister’s Office Director General Yossi Shelley, met last week, and – following an in-depth discussion – decided to allocate a quota to import up to 6,400 foreign workers for the trade, infrastructure and services sectors.
Under this decision, a first-ever call for participation will be issued for employers of foreign workers in cleaning services, event halls, automotive repairs, wholesale and retail trade (including moving services) and building services and infrastructure.
Before the war, 5,572 Palestinians workers were employed in the trade and service sectors. Currently, there is a shortage of personnel in the labor market in these sectors.
The committee decided to allow the Economy Ministry to issue a call for participation to employers who desperately need workers in these sectors, in order to quickly address the existing distress.
