Joseph McCann

Police have arrested a man suspected of raping three women, one Jewish.

Joseph McCann was wanted for questioning following a Metropolitan Police appeal over incidents in Chingford and Edgware on April 25, and Watford on April 21 last week.

He was reportedly discovered in a tree following a car chase after abducting two women in Congleton town centre last Sunday evening.

The 34-year-old was taken into custody after a stand-off with police negotiators.

Officers believe a friend of family member was hiding him.

Since his arrest, McCann is reportedly being investigated for further attacks on victims.

Det Ch Insp Katherine Goodwin, Met Police, described the attacks as “grotesque and horrifying”, and appeal to other victims to come forward.

Police want to hear from anyone approached by McCann or in contact with him between February and May.

“Detectives from the Met continue to lead on this investigation and are working very closely with policing counterparts where he is suspected to have carried out further offences,” she said.

Scotland Yard offered a £20,000 for information leading to his arrest and prosecution.
