One hundred young people attended an online Graduate Careers Month hosted by Work Avenue to give them a taste of a wide range of occupations.

Events took place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings over the last month, with each including expert speakers and networking opportunities.

Work Avenue – the Jewish community’s leading employment and business support organisation – decided to extend their usual in-person careers evening to a whole month now that students could Zoom in from wherever they may be.

Interim CEO Emma May said “Graduate Careers Month has been a huge success. Our delegates heard from professionals from a range of fields who had trod the same paths before them.  Each of their stories was inspirational and motivational and presented a fabulous networking opportunity too. In some cases, our professionals had been our students from previous years and it was great to see the working professionals they had become.”

Professions covered included law, accountancy, marketing, journalism, IT, property, finance, fashion, HR, events management and much more.

Attendee Natasha said: “I logged in for the IT graduate event, which I really enjoyed. The speakers were good communicators, relatable and accessible. I liked that a range of IT disciplines were represented and the fact that one of the speakers was female, as sometimes I find that female representation can be a little lacking in tech.

“This event was not my first interaction with Work Avenue and it won’t be my last. Work Avenue helped me to find my feet after uni, and I think I will return to them for some career guidance soon too. In the meantime, the event has given me plenty to think about and mull over, and for that I am very grateful.”
