On Yom Ha’atzmaut 15th April 2021, over 3000 children from 19 schools and nurseries across the UK: Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and London, collectively walked the distance from the UK to Israel.
Each child walked a mile to raise funds for Ohel Sarah and in doing so took part in a nationwide sponsored walk aimed at bringing Israel closer. “We wanted to encourage children from all over the country to do something together on Israel’s birthday – to feel excited about Israel and to learn something about Ohel Sarah”, said Ohel Sarah’s CEO Debbie Cowen.
All money raised will go towards buying playground equipment and specially adapted bikes for the children in Ohel Sarah’s boys’ school in Israel.
Ohel Sarah has been caring for the special needs population in Israel for over 40 years. It provides a home for life for over 600 adults and children with learning and physical disabilities. Students learn crucial life skills in Ohel Sarah’s schools, housing and employment centres, which increase their confidence, independence and well-being.
