Year Six pupils at the Hackney school traveled back in time to experience what school was like during the Victorian era.  Dressing up in period costume, the children took part in a variety of Victorian classroom activities including learning to sew, singing Victorian songs and reciting poetry.

The children spoke enthusiastically about their Victorian day, “Victorian times were brutal” said one pupil, “my classmate was punished for stealing fruit from my bag and two children had to wear the dunce hat”  Another pupil added “We learnt a song called ‘Oranges & Lemons’ and discovered you were forbidden to write with your left hand”

Year Six teacher, Lucy Milner said “Days like this brings history alive for the children, giving them a feeling of what life was like in the 1800’s”
