On Wednesday 28th November, Claire Krushner chose to cut her long hair in aid of Chai. Her selfless act has raised over £7,500 so far.
Claire has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust to make much needed wigs for children who have lost their hair during treatment.
Following the haircut, Claire said: “All the money raised will be helping so many people dealing with a cancer diagnosis. I am so thrilled that Chai Cancer Care will be benefitting from it.”
On behalf of everyone at Chai, we would like to thank Claire for her amazing dedication and incredible fundraising!
Read Claire’s story in her own words below:
From the age of about 8, cancer has had a profound effect on my life. My grandma unfortunately passed away from ovarian cancer and 5 years later my grandpa succumbed to colon cancer. To see them suffer at such a young age and not be able to help in anyway was extremely hard.
When I was 17 (just 4 years later), my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. It hit us like a freight train and watching her suffer the way her parents had was devastating for us all. Mum fought like a warrior with a positive mental attitude and beat the cancer.
Unfortunately, just shy of 9 years clear and 4 months after my wedding she found another lump. This time the treatment was very aggressive and her body went to war again. I am happy to say that she is a true survivor, but her body very much wears the scars of her battle.
I am sorry to say that the Big C has snuck through the door yet again. It has knocked on the door of another person in my life who is very dear to me. She is an incredible, brave woman and her diagnosis is just the worst thing to come out of 2020. Chai Cancer Care are helping her and her family during their journey, so it’s really important to me that I raise as much as I can as I wave goodbye to my super long hair. She will lose her hair from her treatment and as I cannot donate it directly to her, I can provide hair to a child with cancer through The Princess Trust.
