Avrom Topperman has been appointed chief executive of the London Board of Shechita.

The Manchester lawyer succeeds Mark Goldwater who is making aliyah after six years in the post.

Topperman, who will split his time between Manchester and London, studied at yeshiva in Gateshead and Jerusalem.

London Board for Shechita Honorary President Benjamin Mire said Topperman had exceptional skills and experience.

Founded in 1804, The London Board for Shechita operates on behalf of the Federation of Synagogues, Spanish & Portuguese Jews’ Congregation and United Synagogues of Great Britain.

The Board is a non-profit-making organisation providing kashrut under UK and European legislation relating to environmental, health & safety and tax law.
