Even with the freezing weather, Chanukah plans outdoors are still taking place and people braved the streets and came out to the giant Menorah at Golders Green Station. For over 30 years the giant Menorah is the part of the furniture in Golders Green.
Tzivos Hashem under the organisation of Rabbi and Mrs Yossi Simon are lighting 8 public Menorahs this year in various locations.
The world’s biggest Menorah will be lit every evening of Chanukah, at Golders Green Station at 6pm and Saturday night at 7pm.
Some of the Guests of Honour are Rabbi Levi Sudak, Mayor Brian Salinger, Mr David Delew – CEO of CST and Mr Justin Cohen, who will be going up 30ft in a cherry picker to light the menorah accompanied by a guest chazzan or singer to sing the traditional Chanukah songs. The most exciting part of the event are the doughnuts, thanks to our local bakeries, as Jewish people are attracted to food!!
Other then Golders Green Station, some of the menorahs we have put up are at:
Alexandra Palace, Barnet General Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Highgate, Henley’s Corner and the Royal Free Hospital.
Sunday night is kids night, at Golders Green and we are expecting over 2000 people. We have a fire show, live music, a trapeze artist, balloon man, clowns and lots more.
The menorah lighting takes place in the evenings. During the day Tzivos Hashem are in schools all over London running the ‘’Olive Press’’ taking fresh olives and turning them into olive oil; which is traditionally used to light the menorah commemorating the miracle of finding the oil in the Temple.
